Atleast one person has lost his life while several others sustained injuries after a bus belonging to the modern coast company veered off the road and plunged into a river at Masosa area within Kisii County.
The person who died is said to have been a pedestrian who got hit when the bus slid off the road killing him on the spot. The injured were rushed to the near by hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the Modern Coast fleet management, the bus had 43 passengers on board at the time of the accident. The management in a statement confirmed that the ill-fated bus was travelling from Mombasa to Homabay.

The bus driver said, he was reversing down a steep slope to park when the bus hit a matatu, as a result, the bus slid down and fell on its side into a ditch.
“It was turning to leave when it hit a matatu before it veered down the tarmac into river Nyakomisaro.”

However the Bus management confirmed that most of the passengers alighted safely, “Most of them alighted safely while some who sustained minor injuries were taken for treatment, others have continued with their journey using another bus,” added the company.
County Health Executive Leah Bwari said those injured suffered soft tissue injuries and were treated and discharged.
“They were five ladies and two men and none really suffered any life-threatening injury, even the one doctors initially suspected of suffering a fracture the test returned negative,” said Bwari.
Kisii Central OCPD Amos Ambasa said only one person was confirmed dead.
He has however warned motorists against careless driving during the festivity season
The accident comes months after NTSA suspended the Modern Coast license following the Nithi River accident in Meru county.
