
IEBC election materials destroyed
Election materials belonging to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) were on Monday, destroyed while being ferried to Igambang’ombe sub-county.Â

According to IEBC officials, members of the public in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi county have destroyed the (IEBC) materials that were scheduled to be used tomorrow.
The materials were being transported to polling stations in the Igambang’ombe sub-county before being intercepted by residents who protested and raised an alarm after realizing that some of the materials were marked as belonging to Fifa constituency in Garissa county.

According to an IEBC official , there was a mix-up of ballot papers in the county. According to Tharaka Nithi IEBC returning officer Mohammed Raka, there was earlier confusion about the ballot papers for Fafi ward, and how Garissa County ballot papers got to be discovered in Chuka. “There has been a mix-up where ballot papers for Fafi ward have been found in Chuka. We have informed our Nairobi officer and they are addressing the matter,” Tharaka Nithi IEBC returning officer stated.
He further revealed that the correct ballot papers would be flown to Chuka by helicopter and the correct ones would be sent to Garissa.
“So far this is the only incident that has been reported countrywide and it is being sorted right away,” Raka stated.
There are concerns that incidents such as mix-up of election materials could lead to delays when polling station open on Tuesday, August 9, at 6am. In the coastal region, there was a confusion when some of the ballot papers for Kilifi County were found in Mombasa
